Chequers Tea Rooms

This handy little tea room was once "The Chequers Inn", providing drovers with somewhere to rest and something to drink. During the 18th and 19th century the drovers would drive their herds of cattle, sheep, pigs and geese from the north to the markets of York and Malton. This drovers route is centuries old and dates back into prehistoric times. Further south on this Drovers road, beyond Black Hambleton and above Kepwick, you will pass or will have passed what is left of another drovers inn. Don't expect a pint of best in here now. It's coffee, tea or soft drinks!

This framed sign of the "chequer board" hangs on the wall outside facing the west.
