| Introduction
to the Moors
The North York Moors provide an ideal playground for the cross-country mountain biker. These moors are crisscrossed with tracks and bridleways over the moors, through forests and across dales.
The Cleveland Hills and the North East section of the moors are the easiest and quickest area for me to get to from Teesside. I can be ready to ride within forty minutes from home at Osmotherley or Guisborough, which explains why rides in this area of the moors were first up on my web site.
The far south eastern corner of the North Yorkshire Moors is still unknown
territory for me, but I hope to be exploring that area in time.
You will see the North Yorkshire Moors in their full splendor during late August
and September. Purple carpets of heather spread over moors and drape down into
the green bracken and bilberry covered hillsides. However, the winter months
can be drab, as the moors loose most of their colour. Unless youre a 'die
hard', probably best avoided at this time of year.
