Please note that the track over Whorlton Moor is not a legal right of way. However, the landowner does allow walkers but not cyclists. At the time that we rode these tracks, the 'no cycling' signs were not present. We did get stopped by a Ranger who stated that we should ride slowly to prevent chicks flying through the spokes which is the main concern with bikes.

The track on Wether Hill is also not a legal right of way but there are no signs to state that the landowner is barring the public from using it. A public footpath is shown on the map running parallel to the west side.

So, this is not really a good route to promote for cyclist but I am leaving it available for your information. (Nothing wrong with walking it!).

Head towards Hawnby take the track on the left after 3/4 mile towards Swainby Shooting House. From here, continue to Whorlton Moor following the same track round over Black Moor to a junction of tracks near Osmotherley Stones. Turn left and then right at the next junction near Noon Hill. Follow this track towards the transmitting station turning being careful to keep straight on at the junction with a less well defined track. This track then turns towards the mast. Turn right about two humdred yards before the mast and continue to wall edge and on to Moor Gate. (Note that the section from Cock Howe to The wall corner near Peat Moss is not a recognised right of way and admitance is at the land owners's doscretion. If it don't say "no bikes" then you should be OK.

Cross the cattle grid and turn immediately right onto bridleway leading to Hill End House where you turn right following the track down to the River Rye. Cross the bridge and keep on this track to New Hall. Turn right onto the road here and continue on the road past Arden Hall where the road leads to rough track, Two steep climbs take you through this old quarry area and then onto the old drove road above Kepwick. Turn right and follow this wide grassy track north to White Gill Head where you turn left onto a more loose stony track over Black Hambleton and a fast downhill finish.
